ISO 14064 – Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventorization & Reporting Services
In the face of global climate change, accurate measurement and transparent disclosure of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have become essential for businesses, governments, and institutions. ISO 14064 provides a structured, internationally accepted framework for quantifying, reporting, and verifying GHG emissions and removals — enabling organizations to make informed decisions toward carbon reduction and sustainability.
What is ISO 14064?
ISO 14064 is an international standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to support the measurement, monitoring, reporting, and verification of greenhouse gas emissions and reductions. It ensures consistency, credibility, and transparency in carbon accounting practices.
Why GHG Inventorization is Crucial
Conducting a GHG inventory is not just about regulatory compliance—it’s a strategic tool to support long-term sustainability. A well-prepared inventory helps organizations:
- Understand their carbon footprint across operations and value chains.
- Identify emission hotspots and prioritize areas for carbon reduction.
- Align with global climate policies, including the Paris Agreement and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
- Prepare for carbon pricing, emissions trading, or voluntary offset mechanisms.
- Improve ESG performance and attract sustainability-minded investors.
- Gain a competitive advantage through climate leadership and transparency.
Our ISO 14064 Services
We offer end-to-end support for organizations aiming to implement ISO 14064 standards effectively. Our services include:
1. Gap Assessment & Readiness Evaluation
We assess your existing environmental or energy management systems to identify gaps with ISO 14064 requirements and recommend a roadmap for implementation.
2. Organizational Boundary & Emissions Scoping
We help define the boundary of your GHG inventory using approaches like:
- Control Approach (Operational or Financial)
- Equity Share Approach
We also classify emissions into:
- Scope 1 – Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources
- Scope 2 – Indirect emissions from energy purchased
- Scope 3 – Other indirect emissions (e.g., transport, procurement, waste)
3. Data Collection and Emissions Quantification
We design data management templates and calculate emissions using internationally accepted protocols:
- GHG Protocol (WRI/WBCSD)
- IPCC Guidelines (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)
4. GHG Inventory Report Preparation
We prepare a fully compliant, auditable report under ISO 14064-1. The report includes:
- Methodologies and data sources
- Emission calculations and factors
- Assumptions, uncertainties, and exclusions
- Recommendations for emission reduction
5. Third-Party Verification & Validation Support
We guide you through the ISO 14064-3 verification process. This involves coordinating with accredited verifiers and ensuring all documentation is audit-ready.
6. Capacity Building and Internal Training
We conduct hands-on training sessions and workshops to build internal capacity for ongoing GHG management and future reporting cycles.
Key Benefits of ISO 14064 Implementation
- Clear understanding of where emissions originate
- Reliable data to monitor and track carbon performance
- Helps management prioritize reduction projects
- Enables integration of climate metrics into business planning
- Standardized and consistent emission reporting structure
- Easier response to customer, investor, and regulatory information requests
- Early preparedness for carbon pricing and regulatory changes
- Reduced climate-related risks across operations and supply chain
- Establishes measurable baseline for reduction targets
- Supports structured transition toward low-carbon growth
ISO 14064 GHG Inventorization & Reporting – Process
- Evaluate business operations, define organizational and operational boundaries (equity share or control approach), identify Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions, and conduct a gap analysis against ISO 14064 requirements.
- Establish base year and reporting period, develop the GHG management plan and calculation methodology, select emission factors and data sources, and implement data management and quality control procedures.
- Gather and verify activity data including energy consumption, process and fugitive emissions, fleet and logistics, waste and wastewater, and value chain emissions where applicable.
- Map activity data with emission factors and calculate emissions using IPCC, national, or industry methodologies, followed by uncertainty assessment and hotspot identification.
- Prepare the organizational carbon footprint report consolidating Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, develop intensity metrics, and obtain internal management approval.
- Develop an ISO 14064-1 compliant GHG report, align with ESG and sustainability disclosures, set reduction targets and roadmap, and prepare documentation for third-party verification under ISO 14064-3
