Functions of The Central Insecticides Board (CIB)
- It is mandatory for the Central Insecticides Board (CIB) to advise the Central Government on the parameters of manufacturing insecticides under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 195.
- It is the duty of the Board to specify the usage of classification of insecticides on the toxicity and suitability for common sprays.
- It is advised by the Board to follow tolerance limits for insecticides & residues and maintain the time gap between the use of insecticides and the harvesting of crops.
- It is to establish the shelf-life of each insecticide.

Any individual or a business entity planning to manufacture Insecticides must first get an Insecticides Manufacturing license. The applicant must apply to the Licensing Authority, first to the Central Insecticides Board (CIB) & later to the State Agricultural Directorate. If multiple products are to be manufactured, then separate applications are to be provided for each insecticide. Under Section 9 of the Insecticides Act,1968, the Insecticides manufacturing license is issued by the State Ministry of Agriculture.
Step- 1 Create a login ID and Password, using the registered mobile number and email ID.
Step - 2 Use this login ID and password to login to the State Agri-Licensing portal and upload all the required documents.
Step - 3 Submit the Govt. fee online or through a Bank Challan.
Step - 4 Your application will be reviewed by a designated official and the site inspection of your premises may be performed.
Step - 5 After the site inspection and submission of any query raised, the Insectides Wholesale/Marketing license is issued.

Any individual or business entity that is planning to import a pesticide must first register it with the Ministry of Agriculture. For importing a Pesticide, the application for registration is to be made to the Registration Committee under section 9 (1) of the Insecticides Act, 1968, read with Rule 6 of the Insecticide Rules, 1971. A separate application for each insecticide is to be made by the applicant.
